HELP / IMPORTING

Fix an import that found nothing

What each import error actually means, and what to do about it — from a bad link to a Google connection that needs reconnecting.

2 MIN READ

An import that comes back empty is not necessarily a bug — here is what each message means and how to fix it.

"Couldn't find reviews at that URL"

The page loaded, but Kudokit could not find review data on it — the site may block automated access, or simply not publish reviews in a format we can read. This is deliberately different from an error: an empty result is treated as "nothing there," not "something broke." Try a spreadsheet or adding it manually instead.

"Couldn't load that page"

The page itself did not load — it may be private, blocking bots, or the URL may be mistyped. Check the link opens normally in a browser tab first.

"Enter a valid URL"

The field could not parse what was pasted. A bare link like maps.app.goo.gl/… is fine — Kudokit adds https:// automatically — but make sure the whole link was copied.

Google specifically

Google has two separate connections, and they fail differently:

  • Pasting a Google Maps link (under Import from Web) pulls Google's public reviews for that place directly, no login involved. If it comes back empty, double-check the link is actually your business's Google Maps or Business Profile page.
  • Auto-import from Google (under Auto-import) connects your Google account once and syncs afterwards. A message that the connection has expired usually means it needs reconnecting — this tends to happen after a password change or a long period of inactivity. Reconnect it the same way you set it up the first time.

"Your plan is full"

Kudokit checks your remaining testimonial quota before spending effort fetching from a paid source, so it does not import reviews you would not be able to see anyway. Upgrade first and re-run the import — it fetches the full history, not just what arrived after upgrading.

"Auto-import isn't available on the free plan"

Auto-import's recurring sync is a paid feature. Import from Web works the same way as a one-off on every plan, including Free — you just re-run it yourself instead of it running on a schedule.

A source stopped syncing on its own

If an auto-import source breaks — an expired connection, a change on the platform's side — you get one email about it, not a repeated daily one. Check Import → Auto-import for a source marked with an error and reconnect it there.
